BBC Studios - Investigations Assistant Producer, Countryfile at British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)

Job Introduction

Countryfile, BBC1’s flagship factual series, regularly the most watched factual programme on any channel, is looking for an Assistant Producer who is able to work on initiative, with an appetite for digging into and unearthing stories and information.

Role Responsibility

You’ll have experience generating and developing current affairs films, working across both quick turnaround and longer form projects.
This role will require someone with a personable manner, equally happy bashing phones and emails as well as meeting in person, with an ability to gain trust quickly as well as draw compelling human stories from subjects.
You’ll be expected to generate, submit and chase FOI & EIR requests and have the ability and experience to work on investigations that involve gathering information that has not been previously reported, interrogating data and accurately reflecting complex information found in official documentation.
The role will predominately include a mix of generating, developing and researching high impact investigative journalism, while also being expected to deliver lighter emotive character based films with the support of the Investigations Producer.

Are you the right candidate?

  • An interest and broad knowledge of Rural Affairs including Farming and Food Production, Rural Crime, the Rural Economy, Heritage, Wildlife, Conservation and Environmental issues.
  • A working knowledge of permissions, rights and media law pertaining to filming and using materials for Current Affairs.
  • The ability to undertake horizon scanning, to pre-plan topics, issues and stories based on current trends.
  • Previous experience scripting, conducting interviews and creating imaginative visual content.
  • A keen eye for detail and factual accuracy, wary of how data and the representation of information can be manipulated.
  • The ability to work to a tight and evolving schedule, often with an eye on multiple projects at once.
  • Pitching high impact stories in a concise form, with an eye for strong narratives.
