Position Description:Candidate should have experience provisioning virtual machines and installing, configuring, and patching UNIX-based operating systems to support enterprise applications and databases.
Creates and follows standard operating procedures to ensure completeness of builds
Applies security hardening as required for compliance and security
Installs agent software for various third party products such as monitoring and backup solutions.
Using management consoles to add or remove memory and/or processor allocations to virtual machines
Interest in automation of commonly used functionality is a must
Candidate should be comfortable writing shell scripts to automate tasks
Your future duties and responsibilities:Provision Virtual Machines, working with storage administrators and network administrators, as required
Install and configure UNIX Operating Systems
Maintain virtual machine and operating system baseline configuration documentation, including security controls, profiles, role, etc.
Monitor system (hardware and virtual machines) for performance issues and notify application administrators in the event of degradation or unavailability
Provision user accounts with approved access requests
Verify backups at least daily (workdays) and regularly test restore capability
Respond to audit requests for operating system-level documentation
Monitor security posture of the supported virtual machines and recommend changes to resolve issues/vulnerabilities
Clone virtual machines and/or data volumes as needed
Create/maintain shell scripts to support the tasks above and/or automate administrative tasks
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:Experience managing at least 5 virtual machines in a UNIX environment
Ability to write shell scripts
Experience with Linux, Windows, AIX, MacOS operating systems
Experience operating in a cloud environment (AWS, Azure, etc.)
