Senior Engineer - Power Electronics at General Electric

JOB DESCRIPTION

Role Summary:

As a Senior Engineer - Power Electronics you will work in a collaborative team environment and will develop advanced power conversion concepts for power generation, aircraft engine systems, healthcare, and electric and hybrid vehicle applications.

Essential Responsibilities:

As
part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will contribute to the planning,
development, and transition of technologies from concept to products and/or
services for GE internal and external clients.
You
will:
  • Conduct power electronics
    research through modeling simulation, and design of power circuits.
  • Implement wide band gap based
    power conversion strategies
  • Build and test of prototypes
    active and passive components.
  • Develop test protocols and test
    power converters.
  • Innovate in the power electronics
  • Effectively communicate results
    by preparing written reports and making presentations that describe
    analyses and solutions
  • Connect the organization to the
    latest technology developments and trends in industry
  • Contribute to proposals for GE
    businesses as well as government agencies

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering
    or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience with a focus in
    power electronics or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or related
    field with a minimum of 10 years of experience with a focus in power
    electronics
  • Legal authorization to work in
    the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals at the Masters
    level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • Must be willing to work out of an
    office located in Niskayuna, NY.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Strong
    understanding of strategies and topologies that process AC and DC power.
  • Hands-on hardware experience in
    power electronics
  • Working knowledge of wide band
    gap semiconductors and gating strategies (SiC and GaN)
  • Experience with design and
    implementation of magnetics and capacitors for pulsewidth modulated
    converters
  • Experience in circuit and system
    simulation tools such as Saber, PLECS, Matlab/Simulink, PSPICE, EMTP, etc.
  • Strong foundation in control
    theory and familiarity with DSP and FPGA based controls
  • Demonstrated record of
    publications and patents
  • Connections in industry and
    academia
  • Demonstrated successful track
    record of completing tasks and deliverables on schedule and on budget
  • Excellent written and verbal
    communication skills including demonstrated formal writing and
    presentation experience
